I guess I’ve been living under a rock because I’ve just now seen the award winning video for Radiohead’s “Karma Police” (link because it won’t let me embed for some reason). Jonathan Glazer, the director who also did “Sexy Beast”, said the following about the video:
I regard “Karma Police” as a complete failure, because I decided to do a very minimalist, subjective use of camera, and tried to do something hypnotic and dramatic from one perspective, and it was very hard to achieve and I feel that I didn’t achieve it. But I did feel like I achieved what I wanted to do in the “Karma Police” video when I did UNKLE’s “Rabbit in Your Headlights” video. It’s definitely a partner to the Karma Police video, a couplet for me. I did the UNKLE video because I felt I had missed emotionally and dramatically from a simple craft point of view.

Personally, I think Karma Police is more interesting though obviously less visceral. I love the implied story and slow build of tension. I do think he achieved something “hypnotic and dramatic.” “Rabbit in Your Headlights,” is good too, but about halfway through it starts to get a little silly for me. Even though I have “Rabbit in Your Headlights” embedded here, I recommend seeing “Karma Police” first, especially if you’re like me and have been living under a rock.
